VGT21 does another disappearing act, but..

Taken from Drama's pocket yet again.. "we the best!" And it doesn't get any simpler than that. Season 21 of VGT was another success in the league's long history. Despite the competition's desperate, cheap, and dirty tactics, involving bribes, this season of VGT paraded throughout the weeks with pride and glory. Our community, VG, remains home, as always, to the number one league in all of the fastest map's history. From the looks of it, in which the numbers don't lie, we still have the proof to provide for that claim.

This season saw a total of 21,000 matches played in its 1.5 month run through the 4 ladders. The BW section mustered up almost 9,000* matches played itself, while the SC section accrued almost a whopping 13,000. I know I say this at the end of every season, but I truly want to thank each and every one of you for choosing to play in this league and continuing to support it. Again, without you this league would not be what it is today. 2,000 individual players entered into both the 1v1 ladders combined, while 1,500 of them actively participated. 1,400 players entered the 2v2 ladders, and 800 of them participated.

* About 1,150 of the BW sections matches played were contributed, in large, by a single player. I doubt anyone in the future could ever come close to his record for most matches played. His presence is very well-known and his name haunts all of those throughout the BW population. He is none other than the amazing, the linear talented, the self-proclaimed master of the art of Zerg.. XProGosu.Champ.

Without further delay, here are your final 5 of each ladder..

The legacy of VGT continues onward to further success. Nothing can stop us now.

Each player, in the top 5 of each of the four ladders, has already been awarded their respected flag. Additionally, the previously mentioned players, sans 4th and 5th places, have been contacted so they can receive their cash prizes, which was $30 each for a total of $360 this season. On July 8 (about 2 weeks from now) at exactly 12:01am season 22 of VGT will start. So keep the date and keep practicing.

Hammer me not?

Because I am a man of the people, I have decided to heed the call of my brothers and sisters. I have heard all of your voices and the majority are against the hammering effect in 2v2 matches. Your cries shall be shunned no longer and your needs and wants will be fulfilled.

Syke!

Russ made me remove the hammering effect using his bully tactics. >:[ So I've agreed to remove it for the remainder of the season. Depending on how it affects this season (21), which can be really positive or inversely really negative, it will be out or in for the next season (22).

Here it is one more time for you slow folks.

The hammering effect is no longer present for the 2v2 ladders.

For the that do not know what the hammering effect is I suggest that you brush up on VG's league system, specifically the ranks page:
http://vilegaming.com/league.x/ranks

Here is the hammering excerpt..
Hammering
Hammering is best described as playing the same opponent repeatedly and/or consecutively. When a match is reported the previous 10 matches of the winner will be scanned. For every match out of the 10 that the player has eliminated the same opponent, after the initial match, they will receive a 5 point deduction.

For 2v2 matches, the hammering effect is disabled and will not affect the points.

I lied, again, here it is for the last time for you even slower folks.

The hammering effect is no longer present for the 2v2 ladders.

Shields up, weapons online.

Rejoice! The recently released clan system has now been fully integrated into VG's leagues. In other words, the clan standings are now up and running for each league. :D

On most league pages you will notice at the top left a new block that lists the top 5 clans of the league. Furthermore, the actual full clan standings page is accessible from the main league menus up top. Clans will also now notice that the league tabs on their clan pages are now working. On these tabs you will see a comparison of all the members in the clan in each of the league ladders, and the clan's statistics will be shown for the current and previous seasons.

How points are reflected..
The point system this time around is different from any of the previous methods. First, for a clan to appear on the standings they must have at least 4 members entered in at least one of the ladders. Second, the point formula is dependent on how many of a player's clan mates are entered in the specific ladder. You take that number, divide it by 2, and then take that number and divide it into the original points from the match.

Example..
- aeris[nK] is in the clan Nefarious Knights.
- She wins a 1v1 match and gains 100 points to herself.
- There 3 other members of her clan entered in the 1v1 ladder, for a total of 4 including her.
- The following calculation would take place: 100 points / ( 4 members / 2 ).
- The clan Nefarious Knights would gain 50 points because of the one in a million chance that she won a 1v1 match, by herself, without hacking.

Points from matches in any ladder are all added to the same clan points pool. As in there are not separate points for a clan for each ladder. All ranks are based on the regular point system for the ladders.

Enjoy.

Carrier has arrived! New clan system :D

It is finally here, folks. The long-awaited return of VG's clan system comes at you live. I am extremely proud to release this to you all. Not because you've all patiently wanted it, but instead that this new system is such a huge improvement over the previous one that even I am impressed with my own work. This version is full of exciting features to help you all run your clans with ease and I am sure everyone will enjoy it.

This version of the clan system is actually the third attempt. The second attempt, which was never released publicly, was started a few weeks ago and then scrapped completely. I scrapped it because it wasn't pleased with the organization and inefficient manner at which I coded it. I started this new system 3 days ago and here it is today in its fully-functional form. Overall I would have to say I spent about 18 hours combined working on it.

General features
Center stage - This is where all clan related news will be posted, such as announcements for the clan leagues, updates on clan wars, changes to the clan system, and so on.

Directory - This is where all clans in VG's database are listed by experience.

Registering a clan - This process now requires 1,000 minerals and 200 gas so that only the more serious clans will apply.

Access points - Members logged in and are in a clan can access their clan from several pages. The first is in the control panel on the left side under the "Navigation" block, and is labeled "My clan". The second is directly on the "Clans" submenu, which is also labeled "My clan". The third is on their own profile, under the "About", or any league, tab.

Clan spotlight - Every so often a clan will be cast into the spotlight and will be recognized at the top of the Center stage and Directory.

For those that have read thus far, thank you for your time! You can go ahead and register your clan here:
http://vilegaming.com/clans.php?m=register
..but don't forget to read the rest of this news post for the juicy details. :)

My main priority for this new clan system was to help clans run themselves in a much easier and organized fashion as compared to the old traditional way of running a topic in the forums (which was very messy and hectic for most clans). While I tried to provide a wide array of tools for clans I also aimed to make them simple so as to not overwhelm the majority.

Individual clan features
Colored names - Just like every user's account, clans can now colorize their name so as to distinguish themselves apart from the rest.

Shortcut URLs - Clans can now make their own shortcut URL so that they can share their page with others in a much easier fashion. For example, the Nefarious Knights can be accessed via the following link:
http://vilegaming.com/c/~nk

Experience - Gain experience for clan activity, such as comments on your page or playing league matches.

Member only comments - Clans can toggle a switch to allow only members to comment on their clan page.

Straightforward invite system - Inviting members to a clan has never been easier. Invites can be sent out only by members with enough access. Users eligible for invites can be searched by tag, friends, or their user ID.

Roster - On the left side of each clan's page is a simple and easy to understand list of all the members, separated by their rank and sorted by name. Managing the roster is provided in a very logical and structured way and allows members, that have the right amount of access, to alter other members' ranks.

DSL - Or rather: days since last log. This is how many days it has been since the member last logged into his/her VG account.

Log of roster changes - All changes (member ranks and removing members) to a clan's roster are tracked and can be reviewed at any point in the future by anyone with the appropriate level of access.

Access levels - There are 2 levels of access, other than none, that can be given to members. The first is "Manage roster", which allows a member to manipulate the clan's roster. The second is "Edit clan", which allows a member to manipulate the roster also and edit the clan's page (tabs, ranks, and blocks).

News - Clans can post news that will appear on their front page. Only 1 news post will be displayed at a time. However, all news is archived and previous entries can be accessed publicly.

Custom tabs - Up to 3 tabs are available for each clan's page. These tabs can be used from anything from storing a clan's history, keeping a list of kicked/banned member, or even publishing the official rules and guidelines.

Custom ranks - Each clan is allocated 4 ranks that can be name individually. The order of ranks, on the clan roster, can be changed to whatever suits the clan's needs. A default rank can also be selected, which will be set for all new members to the clan.

Custom blocks - Up to 3 blocks are also available for each clan's page. These can be used for storing smaller things, such as member of the week or clan war information.

The clan system is not yet integrated into the leagues. However, I will get this finished tomorrow, or the day after, when I find time. I decided not to finish the integration before announcing this because I want to give all the clans out there ample time to get used to the new system first. I promise you that when the times comes the integrated clan and league systems will be just as exciting.

Again, thank you all for your patience and for believing in me. I hope you all enjoy using the new clan system just as much as I enjoyed coding it. And for those that are also awaiting VG's Axis site to launch, just think of it as this new clan system except on steroids.

Now in session: VGT21

Season 21 of the legendary league has commenced! We're back yet again to keep this legacy alive. Let's make this another great season, folks. Spread the word as usual, but most importantly have fun. :D This season ends on June 23rd at 11:59pm. Good luck to each every one of you.

The normal prize of 1 month's worth of premium membership to the top 5 players in each ladder at the end of the season still stands. However, to sweeten the pot more a total of $360 in cash prizes is up for grabs this season. The top 3 of each of the 4 ladders will be eligible for $30 ($30 x 3 players x 4 ladders = $360).

The $30 will only be sent via PayPal, or it can be exchanged for additional premium membership (6 more months). No other alternatives for receiving the prize will be supported, such as regular mail or Western Union. Prizes cannot be transferred to another member.
