VG's new year hits off

Last year Vile Gaming witnessed it's finest era of it's long history. We saw a huge increase in activity, both league and site wide, to say the least. More importantly we have proved to others that we are a community that will withstand the test of time, for as long as the StarCraft franchise is alive and kicking courtesy of Blizzard. For the year 2009, I have even bigger things planned for the VG network that will make 2008 incomparable on the level of success and greatness.
To start the year off I am glad to announce, on behalf of the other Head Admins and I, VG's first ever Arch Admins: KiLLaZ[XgK] and CaL]v[Ritz. We have chosen them because we believe they exhibit strong support for the community and have proven their worth, among other critical characteristics. AAs have the duties and powers of all admins aside from the HAs. They serve under the HAs as an alternate bridge between the rest of the admins and the community.

Another successful season ends

We have triumph yet again as a league, folks. The numbers don't lie and only strengthen our foundation we all have been a part of over the years. VGT as a league is truly remarkable, not on it's own but because of all the players that participate in it.
This season was 2 weeks shorter than the usual 2 months and even with that handicap we still achieved a remarkable number of matches played. We hit just about under 17,000 total matches. Averaging 3,000 matches per week, if we had kept the regular season length those 2 extra weeks would've brought us up to 22,000 matches just like the previous seasons. Even with the horrible dent that the latest StarCraft patch caused to our league for a few days, which ceased all league play for a good 2-3 days, we achieved our numbers. An astounding 1,500 unique players have participated one way or another in this season. The stats are testimony to our legacy that continues.

StarCraft II Q&A - Batch 47
Comments (2)Posted by Spartan[nK] on Dec 18, '08 in News
At has been a few weeks since the last batch, but at least we're still getting them. In this batch we learn a variety of changes and gimmicks. The Zerg Overlord can transport units again, the Terran Thor is no longer built by the SCV, and micromanagement control of units is still being heavily emphasized.
Glad to hear they're keeping true to their roots and what made the original StarCraft legendary and hailed as the model RTS to mimic.

Karune on #471. In the original StarCraft, most air units can move and fire, vultures have fast rotating times and can shoot backwards and run forward instantaneously with enough micro. In StarCraft II, there have been some concerns from players who have played the game, that the unit movement animations are getting in the way of micro. Will such animation cancelling techniques still be possible in StarCraft II? - Team Liquid
Both macro and micro-control are very important in StarCraft II as well, and when it comes to micro-control like Vulture’s moving and shooting in the original StarCraft, it is still possible to focus on micro control with the units.
For example, Mutalisks can fire while moving, with micro. And certain ground units, like the Marauders with the slow attack or Roaches with fast regeneration, benefit greatly from moving and shooting, but they still need to stop to shoot. The Hellion is also interesting, because the Hellion is a unit that has high burst, long delay between attacks, splash damage type, as well as a fast movement speed, so it can be used for kiting purposes as well as closing in the distance after every shot to do max possible damage. Eg, shoot once, close the gap, shoot again, close the gap even more, so that you don’t waste a single shot, but with each movement, you are doing a lot more damage.
StarCraft II also has a firing on the move unit -- the Void Ray. The Void Ray can move closer to an enemy unit while continuing to fire at it, and because the damage type builds up over time, it would be more ideal to finish off that one unit that’s trying to run away or back up before engaging a brand new target.
Glad to hear they're keeping true to their roots and what made the original StarCraft legendary and hailed as the model RTS to mimic.

Let's take some time to reflect on the season, the past months, and the year. We all had our ups and downs in 2008 and although it may have been a great year for some, it may not have been as great for others. I wish you all nothing but success in 2009 and I encourage everyone to strive to be the best in whatever it is that they do in order to ensure that 2009 is a great year.
As far as the VG Community goes, the VG staff took some time to come up with some of the most memorable moments of 2008.

Warden Purge

As many of you are aware, Blizzard introduced the Warden Client which identified and closed over 350,000 accounts in the first few weeks of November that were found to be utilizing third-party programs which violates Blizzard's End-User Agreement. With that recap in mind, Vile Gaming has decided to follow up on the Warden bans by investigating and researching over 200 suspicious accounts.
We've created a multi-phase system which cross-referenced and filtered accounts narrowing it down to about 50 highly suspicious accounts. It's our priority to make sure the community has a pretty good idea of how this method works.
